Fire Hydrant Flushing

During the year re hydrants are ushed to test the re ow capacity, to remove sediment and rust from the water, or to maintain proper water particle levels. In South River, we conduct hydrant ushing twice each year, in the spring and autumn.

During hydrant ushing there may be a noticeable decrease in pressure, as well as a discoloration in the water. This is not physically harmful and will not a ect the safety of the water for drinking and sanitation purposes. If this occurs, please run your cold water for several minutes to clear your lines. You should also ush your toilets once or twice. The water should run clear within a few minutes.

We urge you not to do any laundry during these times.

You can view the current schedule in the Borough Calendar.
